Amendment to Nevada Bill Removes Model Code Adoption Language

[Updated June 1, 2009]

On March 23, a bill (AB 522) was introduced in the Nevada General Assembly establishing a comprehensive state energy plan.  Among the provisions, the bill called for the Nevada Energy Commission to adopt the 2009 IECC and ASHRAE Standard 90.1-2007, for the state codes to be updated every three years , and for the allowance of more stringent codes by local governments.

On May 22, however, the Assembly approved Ways and Means Committee Amendment 930, which removed the language pertaining to the adoption of the energy codes. The version of the bill passed by the full state Assembly no longer addresses energy codes. This version has been subsequently approved on May 26 by the Senate Energy, Infrastructure, and Transportation Committee, and on May 28 by the full Senate.

On May 30, the bill (without energy code language) was signed by Governor Jim Gibbons and is now a part of Chapter 377 of Nevada state law
