Montana Building Codes Council to File 2009 IECC Adoption with State

On June 25, the Montana Building Code Council voted to adopt the 2009 IECC with amendments. A public hearing on the new energy code, during which comments may be submitted, is scheduled for November 30, 2009, at 10:00am MT in room B-07, 301 South Park Avenue, Helena, Montana. Comments may be submitted to Building Code Bureau Chief David Cook until December 14. As for a potential effective date for the new regulations, the Administrative Rules of Montana (ARM) requires the process to be completed within six months of the filing date (which was at the start of October) with the Secretary of State.

Montana Building Codes Council Votes to Adopt 2009 IECC, Require Basement Insulation

On June 25, 2009, the Montana Building Code Council voted to adopt the 2009 IECC with amendments. The Montana Department of Labor and Industry will be accepting comments on the new code when the department holds the public hearing as part of the administrative Rules process, which should take effect in fall of 2009.

Montana Building Codes Council Meeting on 2009 IECC -- June 25

The Montana Building Codes Council will meet 11:00 o'clock A.M (Mountain Time), June 25, 2009, in the basement conference room (room B07), 301 Park Avenue, Helena, Montana, to assist the department with the application, implementation, and interpretation of the state building code and building codes adopted by counties, cities, or towns.

The purpose of this meeting is to consider and make recommendations concerning the adoption of the 2009 IECC.

Montana Update Process for 2009 IECC Underway

Montana is in the process of adopting a new statewide energy code based on the 2009 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC). The last code change occurred in 2005 with adoption of the 2003 IECC with Montana amendments. Montana will be one of the first in the nation to adopt the new code, possibly in early summer of 2009. The new energy code is a product of the International Code Council (ICC) proceedings that were held in Minneapolis, MN in September 2008.

The Montana Department of Labor & Industry, Building Codes Bureau will be holding a meeting of interested parties and stakeholders on the subject of the adoption of the 2009 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC).
