Wisconsin Legislature to Consider 2006 IECC for State Residential Code

Efforts are currently underway to incorporate the 2006 IECC with state-specific amendments into the State of Wisconsin Uniform Dwelling Code (UDC). COMM 22 of the current state-developed Uniform Dwelling Code is applicable to 1 & 2 family dwellings and meets 1995 MEC requirements.

The final code change proposal (see COMM 22 beginning on page 66) was sent to the State Legislature for approval on August 27, 2008. If approved, the code change could be implemented in the spring of 2009.

Wisconsin Implements 2006 IECC

Effective March 1, 2008, the state adopted the Wisconsin Commercial Building Code, with state-specific modifications to the 2006 editions of the International Code Council model codes. These codes are mandatory statewide for residential and commercial buildings.

Changes to the Wisconsin Commercial Building Code can be found on the Wisconsin Department of Commerce website.

Wisconsin Repeals Superinsulation for Dwellings Heated with Electricity

The Wisconsin statutory mandate for superinsulation of one and two-family dwellings heated by electricity was repealed by recently-signed 2007 Act 67, which will be effective at the end of March. The act says: "The department may not promulgate or enforce a rule that requires that any one-family or two-family dwelling that uses electricity for space heating be superinsulated." S&B will be developing rules in the future to remove the current regulations, which are not now enforceable.

Wisconsin Adopts 2006 IECC and Provides Training
